Follett Content Invites Community to Annual Public Book Sale Benefiting McHenry County Children Through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

BY FOLLETT CONTENT

One-day sale offers thousands of books at bargain prices while supporting literacy opportunities for local children.

McHenry, Ill., 9/14/2026 – Follett Content, in proud partnership with United Way of Greater McHenry County, is excited to welcome the community to its Public Book Sale on Saturday, September 26, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1340 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry, IL 60050. Open to the public, the one-day event offers book lovers the chance to shop thousands of books for all ages at unbeatable prices while supporting local literacy initiatives.

After raising more than $13,000 through last year's sale, Follett Content hopes to build on that success and generate even more support for local children and families through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

Every purchase helps put books into the hands of local children through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL), which mails free, age-appropriate books each month to children from birth to age five, regardless of family income.

DPIL partners with local organizations nationwide to help bring books directly into children's homes. United Way of Greater McHenry County serves as the local program partner, funding books and coordinating enrollments to help foster a lifelong love of reading among young children.

Shoppers will discover a wide variety of thousands of books and other reading materials, including:

  • Board books
  • Children's, young adult, and adult fiction
  • Nonfiction and reference books
  • Cookbooks
  • Coloring books
  • Crossword and puzzle books
  • Formats: hardcovers, paperbacks, and large-sized books

All items are priced at just 50 cents each (two for $1), and there is no limit on the number of books purchased. Only cash will be accepted. Early arrival is encouraged for the best selection.

Read the event flyer to learn more.

In addition to the public event, Follett Content team members will participate in a separate presale, with proceeds contributing to the overall donation benefiting United Way of Greater McHenry County's Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program.

“Books have the power to change lives, and this event gives our community a simple way to make a meaningful difference," said Britten Follett, CEO of Follett Content. "Every book purchased helps support Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and ensures more children in McHenry County can begin building a love of reading from an early age. We're proud to open our doors and invite the community to join us in supporting literacy for local families." Hear more from Britten about the importance of the sale on WGN Radio 720.

Community members are encouraged to bring cash, browse for hidden literary treasures, and support a program that helps put books into the hands of local children every month!
