As a fifth-generation family member, I'm proud to be working for Follett and carrying on the legacy of excellence in education that began for my family 148 years ago when my great-great-grandfather founded Follett Corporation. While I was blessed with a great education from Southern Illinois University, I knew there were others who did not have this same opportunity. My first career as a television reporter inspired me to be an author, and eventually to move back home to work in the family business, where I could bring the priceless life lessons of teamwork, friendship, and the importance of lifelong learning to a worthwhile organization. In 2012 when I took on the role as President of the Follett Educational Foundation, I brought my belief that every student should have those same opportunities. As the cost of higher education continues to increase, the Foundation's mission is more important than ever.
Thanks to our generous donors, golf outing participants, my team of trustees, and our dedicated selection committee, last year the Foundation gave out $300,000 in scholarships to 150 very worthy students.
