I read about 20 books this summer, but a few stood out – and a few didn’t quite land the way I’d hoped.
A dear friend mailed me a copy of This Book Made Me Think of You by Libby Page – a warm, reflective read that lived up to its title in the best way. Much different, but also delightful was Matt Haig’s The Midnight Train, a story that makes you pause and reconsider the paths not taken.

No summer is complete without Kristin Hannah, and I devoured both Firefly Lane and its sequel Fly Away – a gorgeous, gut-punch of a friendship saga spanning decades that had me both laughing and reaching for tissues. I closed out the season with Abby Jimenez’s Say You’ll Remember Me, which captured the essence of living with a loved one with dementia and the price of long-distance relationships.

Not every book can be a favorite. While the world loves The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett, I found it a bit long and hoped it was building to a stronger ending. In addition, Gone Before Goodbye by Harlan Coben and Reese Witherspoon, and Kristin Hannah’s Home Front both left me wishing for more.
