You’ve Been Book’d With Books To Celebrate and Learn About Juneteenth
I have brought together 20 meaningful books to celebrate Juneteenth, a holiday observed on June 19 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. Juneteenth was first celebrated in Texas in 1865, when, in the aftermath of the Civil War, enslaved people were finally declared free under the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.
As educators, we have the opportunity to bring this important history to life for our students. These books provide powerful ways to spark conversations, build understanding, and honor the resilience, culture, and contributions of Black Americans. Whether you’re planning lessons, creating displays, or simply sharing stories, this collection can help you support meaningful learning and reflection in your classroom and school community.
In the choice board, you can click on each book cover to explore it in Titlewave, and you can also find the full Juneteenth Titlewave list linked there too.
