BASKING RIDGE, NJ – Bernards Township School District in Basking Ridge, N.J., capped an extensive two-year search by selecting Follett Aspen® SIS for its new student information system (SIS). The PreK-12 district implemented Follett Aspen® SIS in time for the beginning of the 2017-18 school year, which began Sept. 7.
According to Superintendent of Schools Nick Markarian, the decision to move to a new SIS followed a selection committee’s careful consideration of the district’s needs, and the evaluation of several of the top student information systems in the marketplace. Markarian said Aspen was ultimately chosen because of its ability to:
“Moving to Aspen will provide a wonderful opportunity for our district to evaluate processes to make them better, more efficient, and more user-friendly,” he said. “We are so excited to grow Aspen over time in a way that increasingly serves the needs of students, staff, and parents.”
Markarian said Follett Aspen® SIS will allow students and parents to access information from home more efficiently and easily. “Right away, the benefits of both the student portal and the parent portal will be evident.”
The Follett Aspen® SIS Gradebook, used by teachers to capture attendance and grade information, will offer parents and students timely and confidential access through the SIS’ web-based portal. Moreover, Aspen partners with SRC Solutions, Inc., for an online registration system. Gateway Suite for Follett Aspen® SIS allows school districts to migrate their paper-based registration processes to a simple, yet dynamic, online registration environment.
“We applaud the district’s selection committee for its rigorous and competitive search process,” said George Gatsis, Senior Vice President of Technology Platforms, Follett School Solutions. “We are thrilled to expand our working relationship with Bernards Township, which also uses our Follett Destiny® solution for its library and resource management needs. The district is accomplishing one of its key goals by seamlessly integrating Aspen with our Destiny platform.”
Bernards Township School District serves more than 5,400 students in six schools – four elementary, one middle and one high.
Follett Aspen® SIS currently serves more than two million students throughout 236 school districts in the U.S. and Canada. Follett recently announced Follett Aspen® SIS was selected as the new SIS for Chicago Public Schools, the nation’s third-largest school district.
