Black History

Follett is celebrating African Americans and labor through stories of perseverance and groundbreaking achievements. Our curated list for K-12 educators helps highlight the struggles for education, work, entrepreneurship, and social change that did not discourage Black people in their journey for equality. These stories demonstrate how African Americans overcame systemic oppression and made significant contributions to the labor force, economy, and society.

Educators can use this list to guide students through narratives of resilience, showcasing figures like Booker T. Washington, Madame C.J. Walker, and A. Philip Randolph, who paved the way for future generations. These stories are a testament to the relentless pursuit of progress and justice, even in the face of adversity.

As we reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s words: “Even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream,” we are reminded that the struggle for equality is ongoing. Dr. King’s dream of a better future continues to inspire us to build a more just and inclusive society.

Follett’s initiative honors the legacy of African Americans, empowering educators to teach the value of perseverance, education, and collective action in creating a better world.
