Librarian Says Titlewave Series Notification Service Key to Promoting Students’ ‘Love of Literacy’

MCHENRY, Ill., May 23, 2024 — A new exclusive service from Titlewave will alert PreK-12 librarians when the latest titles in a book series have been released. The Series Notification service allows educators to receive monthly notification emails about upcoming and top-selling titles.

With the new service — free to Titlewave users and available within their account settings — librarians can now conveniently shop current and previous series titles, plus receive a sneak peek into what’s coming next. Beyond providing librarians an easy way to stay current, the service is crucial to students as studies show those who embrace a book series will yearn to read more about their favorite characters. Literacy experts also note an engaging series boasts the potential to help reluctant readers fall in love with books.

Amanda Chacon, the 2024 School Library Journal “School Librarian of the Year,” said the Titlewave Series Notification service is instrumental on many fronts.

“Students love snagging the latest book in a series – it’s like catching up with old friends,” said Chacon, who since 2016 has been the librarian at H.M. Carroll Elementary School in Houston, Texas. “It keeps them captivated, eager to see what happens next to their favorite characters. Maintaining that sense of continuity and adventure is essential in promoting a love of literacy.”

Chacon adds that for librarians, stocking up on the latest installments of a series keeps the shelves of their libraries fresh and exciting, especially important as they cater to the ever-changing tastes of readers.

“Plus, it's a way to underscore that the library is in tune with the community, offering up-to-date reads for everyone to enjoy,” she said.

On a monthly basis, Titlewave Series Notifications will be delivered free to customers who have signed up for the service. They will be notified of the latest series for that month.

Getting the latest series release in your school library is like having the inside scoop on your favorite celebrity before all the world does,” said Yolanda Williams, sixth-grade teacher, Veterans Memorial School in Covington, Ga. “The newest series release is valuable to librarians because the library becomes the best ‘hot spot’ in the school without a computer. Scholars are sure to develop independent reading habits with this all-access pass.”

Williams, also an educational consultant, adds, “Oh yeah… the librarian also becomes their best friend!”

Britten Follett, CEO, Follett Content, said Titlewave makes it easy for educators to sign up for the Series Notification service, as well as all the other time-saving benefits it offers.

“Not only do we curate thousands of titles to offer a comprehensive series book selection, our Titlewave collection analysis, series release calendar, and series notification tools make it a breeze to fill holes in a librarian’s collection and discover new titles,” said Britten Follett, CEO, Follett Content Solutions. “It’s part of our commitment to promote literacy and keep kids absorbed with the books they love to read. And it’s a great bonus if we can help librarians be the heroes in their libraries!”

Titlewave debuted in 1997 as the first PreK-12 library e-commerce site and online collection development and curriculum support tool for school libraries, librarians, and educators. Today, Titlewave is a go-to site in the PreK-12 space realizing as many as 14,000 unique daily users.
